1 Corinthians 9:24 acknowledges that all runners in a race are running but only one gets the prize. The verse ends with the call out to run to win. I have no desire to receive a participation award from God. Men, Jesus did not get beaten, mocked, ridiculed, and killed just so we could participate in life. He has given us everything we need to run to win. We see the men of this world working tirelessly to achieve an earthly reward that will fade away and be forgotten. We can do better because Jesus is our King. By the strength and grace of God, we can become the standard of excellence as we pursue the things that will never perish or fade.
